Vertical Shorts keep their original shape. Regular video links work here too.

How to download a YouTube Short

Shorts are watched on a phone, so these steps assume you are on one.

1

Tap Share, then Copy link

The Share button sits on the right-hand side of the Short, under the comment icon. Choose Copy link.

2

Paste it above

Long-press the box and tap Paste. The link will look like youtube.com/shorts/… or a shortened youtu.be link.

3

Pick MP4 or MP3

MP4 keeps the video. MP3 keeps only the sound, which is useful when it is the audio you were after.

What you actually get

Shorts are filmed vertically, and the file you download keeps that shape. A Short saved here is the same tall 9:16 clip you watched, not a widescreen version with black bars added at the sides.

Most Shorts are stored at 1080 by 1920. Some older or re-uploaded ones are lower, and in that case the quality list will show you what is genuinely available rather than offering a resolution that does not exist.

One thing worth knowing: YouTube does not stamp a watermark on Shorts. If you see a logo or username burned into the picture, the creator put it there — it is part of the video, and no tool can remove it.

Saving on your phone

iPhone and iPad

Use Safari. Tap the quality you want, and iOS will ask whether to download.

The file lands in Files, then Downloads, not in Photos.

To get it into your camera roll, open it from Files, tap Share, then Save Video.

If nothing seems to happen, check the download arrow next to Safari’s address bar.

Android

Chrome, Firefox and Samsung Internet all work.

The file goes to your Downloads folder.

Most gallery apps pick it up within a few seconds on their own.

If a warning about file types appears, that is Chrome being cautious about any video file. Choose Download.

What works and what does not

Works

Any public Short

Unlisted Shorts, if you have the link

Regular videos pasted on this page

Audio-only, as MP3

Does not work

Private, deleted or members-only Shorts

Age-restricted Shorts, usually

A whole channel’s Shorts at once

Removing a creator’s own watermark

If something goes wrong

The link is not accepted

Make sure you copied a single Short, not a channel page or the Shorts feed. The link should have /shorts/ followed by eleven characters.

Nothing happens on iPhone

Safari downloads quietly. Tap the arrow beside the address bar, or open Files and look in Downloads.

The video is sideways

A few players ignore the rotation flag. Open the file in your phone’s own gallery app rather than a third-party player.

“Video not found”

The Short is private, was deleted, or is blocked in the server’s region. Check it plays in a private browser window.

Before you save someone’s Short

Shorts are short, which makes them easy to re-upload — and that is exactly the problem. Reposting someone else’s Short as your own is the most common way creators lose credit for their work, and it breaks both copyright law and YouTube’s terms.

Saving a Short to watch offline, to study how it was edited, or because you made it yourself is a different matter. If you want to share someone’s Short with a friend, send them the link instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Shorts downloader free?

Yes. No account, no sign-up, no limit on how many Shorts you save, apart from a short pause if a lot of downloads start from one connection at once.

Does the Short stay vertical?

Yes. The file keeps its original 9:16 shape. Nothing is cropped, stretched, or padded with black bars.

Can I remove the watermark?

There is no YouTube watermark on a Short to remove. If a logo or handle is visible in the picture, the creator added it when editing, so it is part of the video itself.

What quality will I get?

Whatever the Short was uploaded at, commonly 1080 by 1920. The quality list only shows options that genuinely exist for that clip.

Can I save just the sound?

Yes. Choose the MP3 option after pasting the link. It extracts the audio at 192 kbps.

Where does the file go on iPhone?

Into the Files app, in the Downloads folder. To move it to your camera roll, open it there, tap Share, then Save Video.

Can I download all Shorts from a channel?

No. One at a time. Open each Short and paste its own link.

Does it work for normal videos too?

Yes, you can paste a regular video link here. If that is mostly what you need, our YouTube video downloader is the same tool with notes written for longer videos.
